Short profile

The main objectives of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Labour of Nordrhein-Westfalen are to strengthen the innovative structure in Nordrhein-Westfalen, to improve the competitiveness of the economy, to develop the service sector and to help create new jobs and secure the existing ones

Therefore the ministry founded specific initiatives for example in the fields of Life Science, Automotive, Microtechnology, Internet-Security, Logistics. With the initiatives "Go" and "Move" a network of different regional partners is established that aims to improve the regional environment, the culture and regulatory frameworks for start-ups and also the relations between small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) and public administration.

The ministry provides specific programs and measures which (a) support companies, especially SMEs in developing new technologies and implementing them into the market (b) support new foundations of companies and the creation of jobs (c) help domestic companies to invest in foreign countries (d) support regional networks, especially strengthen the innovative and technological clusters and competences (e) improve the skills of employed and unemployed people in developing new approaches in training and qualification and (f) improve the conditions of the labour market.
