Short profile

Steinbeis Europa Zentrum (SEZ) is the head of the consortium of Innovation Relay Centre IRC D/CH. The region covered by the IRC is Baden-Wuerttemberg, Thuringia and the German-speaking part of Switzerland. SEZ was founded in March 1990 as the operational unit of the Commissioner for Europe of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Minister of Economic Affairs. SEZ is embedded in the regional technology transfer scene, being one of the 400 technology transfer centres of the Steinbeis Foundation. The Steinbeis Foundation for Economic Promotion (StW, subject to private law) was founded by the government of Baden-Wuerttemberg in 1971 and has a foundation capital of 30 million DM (15 million Euro).

Core activities of SEZ are to promote RTD programmes, to assist in exploitation of research results, to support cross-border technology transfer and to stimulate innovation processes in small and medium sized enterprises. SEZ participates in numerous European networks and projects and has experience in organising international conferences on innovation and technology transfer matters.

Activities in the field of Regional Innovation

Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ) is the Innovation Relay Centre Consortium leader for Southern Germany and the German-speaking part of Switzerland. The region covered is South West Germany, the German-speaking part of Switzerland and Thuringia.

Since the new contract-period of the IRC Network (April 2000) SEZ is one of now eight existing Innovation Relay Centres in Germany and is head of the consortium of Innovation Relay Centre of D/CH. In the period 1995 - 1999 SEZ was consortium leader for the IRC, which also covered Bavaria, but not Switzerland. SEZ operated as a successful Value-Relay-Centre. According to the Commissions' evaluation it was in the group of the 10 best Value-Relay-Centres in Europe. It was therefore chosen again by the Commission in 1995 and was given the status of Innovation Relay Centre (IRC).
