Conference on Supply Chain Management
Call for Papers
CM International and the Research Unit URENIO have the pleasure to invite speakers for the Conference of the European Thematic Network VERITE on "The Changing Role of Supply Chains in Regional Development". The conference will take place on 20 and 21 February 2003 in Cardiff, Wales (UK).
The aim of the conference is examine emerging trends in supply chain management, and learn how these are likely to affect regional economies. The focus will be on how SMEs and regional policy makers will need to respond to the challenges that changes will bring.
The main themes of the conference, on which the papers will focus, are:

Session 1: Supply Chains and the Objectives of Regional Policy

Focus of this session will be to examine the broad objectives of regional policy, and how supply chains can help to achieve them.

Session 2: The Changing Role of Supplier Development Strategies

This Session will give examples of specific interventions. We would like to hear from academics or practitioners with experience in this area.

Session 3: Improving Supply Chain Performance
-
Session C comprises a series of interactive workshops on the following topics: (a) Logistics (b) Sustainable Development (c) E-commerce, and (d) New Product Development
Each workshop has three elements:
- A speaker to set out the key issues
- A case study or demonstration of a specific supply chain tool
- A short discussion
Each workshop should seek to address the following questions:
- What should regional organisations be doing to help firms improve their supply chain performance?
- What tools exist to help firms do this?

Session 4: Supply Chain Mapping

This Session will examine the topic of supply chain mapping from two angles:
- How do companies map their own supply chains? How can they use this information to improve their competitiveness?
- What approaches exist to help a region map its supply chains? How is the information used to improve regional competitiveness?
